Pepe Cobos, owner of the legendary Malaga bar El Pimpi, is embarking on the opening of a new space with a totally different gastronomic and leisure offer. If El Pimpi is a benchmark in both wines and traditional and local cuisine, the new project sought to be a mix of tradition and avant-garde to which would be added a unique pairing in Malaga: cocktails. A new concept for the city that would allow you to taste Mediterranean cuisine dishes while enjoying a careful cocktail menu. All of this in a space that, in turn, would have a more contemporary design than El Pimpi.
The new location is very close to El Pimpi. To differentiate both businesses, but at the same time link them, Narita proposed a strategy based on connecting them through an action of storytelling: a story invented around the figure of a pimpi. This local expression, from which the traditional Pepe Cobos winery takes its name, is the form that was popularly used in Malaga to refer to those who approached the port in search of work, offering help to the crew and passengers of the ships. – later they would end up becoming city guides. The strategy proposed by Narita consisted of turning the pimpi of El Pimpi into a character, conceiving the new establishment with the personality of his partner: La Sole.
Narita devised a poem in which our particular pimpi asked the Sun to find a companion. And he sent his daughter Sole to him. From this strategy of storytelling, a narrative was built that served as the guiding thread of the entire business project, defining everything from the design of the premises, based on the rays of the Sun, to the gastronomic proposals, inspired by Sole's daring and unapologetic personality.
The design of the premises was developed by Miguel Seguí, from the Eme al Cubo studio, while Narita was in charge of the entire graphic part. This ranged from the design of the brand and its implementation in the signage, the menu, the coasters and cutlery wrappers, the uniforms and other promotional materials to the art direction of the gastronomy photographs and video pieces, plus the web design.
